what to do

Once you are here a whole new world opens itself up to you and the outdoor possibilities are endless. To name just a few:-

watch for marine wildlife
New Quay is famous for its Bottlenose Dolphins and they can regularly be seen leaping and diving as they follow shoals of fish into the bay. Click here to watch a video clip of the dolphins in Cardigan Bay in May 2006. There are believed to be over 150 bottlenose dolphins living in Cardigan Bay. A good spot to see them is at the end of the Quay, or alternatively take a boat trip from the pier on the Ermols or Sulaire and explore the Cardigan Bay Marine Heritage Coast. Harbour porpoises and seals are also commonly seen.

explore the shore
There is nothing like a sea side stroll. But if even this sounds too much like hard work, then take bucket and spade and a good book to New Quay’s clean, safe and sandy beaches to relax and soak up the sun! The main beach has blue flag status. Or try nearby Llangrannog, Penbryn and Tresaith for a more secluded feel.

walk for miles
It is impossible to fail to be impressed by New Quay’s wild and rugged scenery. Dramatic coastlines, scenic bays, wooded valleys and constantly changing skies are the ever-present backdrop. There are beautiful circular walks along quiet country lanes and spectacular coastal paths, sandy beaches overlooking secret coves and tiny fishing villages. Let us show you our favorites – or take a look here.

catch a fish supper
In summer families can go mackerel fishing on boat trips that leave from the pier (all fishing tackle is provided), then bring home your catch for a beach barbeque as the sun sets.
Those interested in more serious fishing expeditions can hunt sea bass with Sea Bass Safaris.

look out for birds
This is a paradise for birdwatchers. Peregrines, red kites and choughs abound, not to mention razorbills, guillemots, shearwaters and gannets. We can show you just where to find these and other rarer species including the comical puffin. Click here to learn more about Ceredigion’s bird life.

learn about lifeboats
Tim is a crew member and can tell you more about New Quay’s two lifeboats. The boat house is open all summer and it makes an interesting visit.

discover Dylan Thomas
Dylan and his wife Caitlin lived in New Quay during the war and immortalised the town and its people in Under Milk Wood. Click here and here for more information about the great poet or follow the trail through the village and along the coast.

rule the waves
Try your hand at boating with the qualified staff the Cardigan Bay Watersports Centre. Sailing, kayaking and power boating options come in anything from one-hour beginners sessions to full qualifications earned over one, two or five days.
