news

Okay..... There’s no hiding it, the weather in August has been atrocious. In common with the rest of the U.K., New Quay has been drizzled upon, lashed with sporadic gales and occasionally drenched. Locals are commenting upon the worst late July and early August in living memory and Craig-Y-Wig's front porch coat rail has been festooned with anoraks. However, our visitors seem to have taken this in their stride and made the most of wet muggy walks and steamed up local hostelries!

Which all seems a bit odd because as I write New Quay is basked in tropical sunshine; It is hot, sunny and the beaches are doing their more usual impression of the Mediterranean. It is one of those days where the blue sea is dashed with white horses as a moderate breeze kicks up the water. Summer is back again! And we are hoping that it is here to stay. The local fishermen are the best source for of weather predictions and they are suggesting that this autumn could well turn out to be a cracker. Let's hope so!

At Craig-Y-Wig our garden is enjoying the wetter weather. The view from our Garden Room is rich in choice vegetables, plump apples and the best Dahlias we have grown. I have just started picking the latter for display in the house and their sweet scent, mixed with sea breezes fills our home. In the greenhouse the cherry tomatoes are ripening and these we will serve lightly roasted at breakfast. We have always chosen to serve fresh tomatoes alongside our local meats and Welsh free range eggs but the addition of home grown (thanks Rod!) tomatoes will be extra special.

The mackerel and sea bass season is now in full swing and our guests can enjoy grilled mackerel fresh from the sea for breakfast – when Tim can catch it that is! It is a real seaside treat and one that our customers continue to relish.

We will close for the season on 1st November, so if you are planning an autumn break please do get in touch to discuss your plans and check our availability.

I hope to see you soon.....
